Terricciola Winery, a winery with heart...
The Terricciola 6 winery is located in the idyllic Tuscan mountain village of Terricciola in the province of Pisa, whose origins date back to Etruscan times.
The approximately 24 hectare property with a farmhouse has been in the family since 1956. In addition to wine production, various agricultural products are produced here, including olive and fruit plantations.
In 2012, a holiday apartment (FeWo TR1E) was restored in the main house, where the owners also live. A detached holiday home FI2EG was built in the haystack opposite.
Both residential units have an independent entrance and their own furnished outdoor area with panoramic views. From here you have a direct view of the hills below and the vineyards with the new wineries, which were built in addition to the original wineries directly next to the main house in order to increase wine production.
Both residential units have been tastefully restored using high-quality natural materials (solid wood, natural stone tiles) and great attention to detail. A traditional, sometimes very personal design with, among other things, self-made or self-restored furniture characterizes the entire furnishings in both apartments!
The love for one's own land has been passed on from generation to generation. In 1997, the family's youngest daughter, Claudia, took over this inheritance and is now running the family business with the help and support of her brothers and the rest of the family. Since 2002, the focus has been increasingly on traditional vine cultivation; the vineyard has been planted and the winery has been gradually built up. Realizing this project on your own is a great challenge but also the realization of a dream.
The vineyards of the Terricciola 6 winery extend over 6 hectares with a density of 5434 vines per hectare. Cultivation is carried out using the Guyot method, which results in a low yield. The red grape varieties grown are Sangiovese, Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the white grapes are Trebbiano, Malvasia and Colombana. The harvest is done exclusively by hand. Although the vineyards extend over a contiguous area, there are significant differences in altitude, exposure, soil conditions and microclimate. For this reason, each individual variety is processed separately. With the help of in-depth knowledge of the properties of the individual wine varieties in the different zones of the vineyard, it is possible to constantly improve the quality of the wines. When making wine, attention is paid to temperature control and the wine is stored in wooden barrels.
Special attention and care is given to the production of the traditional “Vin Santo“, for which specially selected grapes are dried on traditional cane mats.
