Tips for wine tasting

Hardly any other drink is tasted as intensively as wine. During a wine tasting, it is first experienced with all the senses, then analyzed and only then tasted:
  • Every wine tasting begins with you and the neutralization of your mouth. Because if the taste buds are occupied by coffee, chocolate or chewing gum, for example, they cannot taste pure wine at all. So first take a big sip of still water or a piece of dry bread!
  • The next step is to examine the bottle and the cork.
  • Now the glasses are avinated, i.e. washed with a little wine, so that no traces of dust or detergent on the edge of the glass affect the taste.
  • Now six to eight cl of wine are poured into the glass, swirled and carefully observed how the wine runs down the glass walls.
  • This is followed by evaluating the color by holding the glass against a light background.
  • For the subsequent olfactory test, you should take some time and swirl the wine vigorously in the glass and immediately inhale the scent with a short breath.
  • Only then can you taste and drink the wine for the first time. Keep the wine in your mouth for a while. If you suck in some air, it reacts with the oxygen and releases further aromas.

Of course you are free to swallow the wine now. When tasting wine, you should always be aware that all wine tastes the same when you're drunk. Since you can taste several wines during our wine tasting, you should remain in control of your senses as much as possible.
