Lanciotto Baldanzi

A Palazzo Senza Tempo in Peccioli: The World of Lanciotto..

The works of art of the painter and artist terricciola are the focus of a unique, exciting exhibition and a theater performance staged by Michele Santeramo. A homage to Lanciotto Baldanzi in the rooms of Palazzo Senza Tempo. Tomorrow, Saturday April 20th at 18 p.m., the exhibition “Lanciotto wanted to be a painter” will open here. This is curated by Alberto Mugnaini and supported by the Fondazione Peccioliper and the Municipality of Peccioli with the support of the “Lanciotto Baldanzi” archive.

Lanciotto voleva fare il picturesque…

After the exhibition on Alessandro Ciulli, painter from Fabbrica, the Valdera continues its efforts to celebrate the artistic heritage of the region: finally, Lanciotto Baldanzi, born on February 14, 1949, lived in Terricciola, his birthplace, until his death in 2022 .

In this village he worked tirelessly and obsessively for over 50 years, leaving behind more than a thousand densely painted boxes and canvases and several hundred drawings and collages. An artistic and human heritage that, thanks to the exhibition at Palazzo Senza Tempo, has now been analyzed in depth for the first time after long months of cataloging. A monograph entitled “Lanciotto wanted to become a painter” was also created, written by Mugnaini.

The exhibition of Baldanzi's works can be viewed until February 2, 2025, daily from 9 a.m. to 20 p.m. in the Palazzo Senza Tempo and with free entry.

In order to understand Baldanzi's complex and unique personality and bring it closer to the public, the Fondazione Peccioliper asked Michele Santeramo, one of the most important contemporary playwrights, to portray him in a theatrical performance. Following the exhibition opening at 21 p.m., a moving piece dedicated to the life of Lanciotto took place in the Cinema Passerotti.

Lanciotto's house in terricciola

We at the Toscana Forum, residents of Terricciola and fellow residents of Lanciotto, had the honor of knowing Lanciotto personally and are friends of his family. His son Tristano, who cares deeply about the appreciation of his father's artistic legacy, sent us one of his last sentences that remained in his memory: During the Covid pandemic, Lanciotto wrote on the terrace of his house, which will soon become a museum will: “Don’t cry. Smile."

The artist painted his house in every corner, so that every element of Lanciotto Baldanzi's house became the “canvas of his artistic expression”. This gem will soon open its doors to visitors and art lovers. We look forward to inviting you to visit Lanciotto's home in Terricciola soon!
