Roberta and Simone exchanged vows in the park

Traditional Italian weddings are celebrated on a large scale, with 150 or more guests, good food and drink as well as exuberant music and dancing. Traditional couples prefer to get married on Sundays and the majority of marriages are still celebrated in church today.

Married by the mayor

It's completely different with Roberta and Simone: They have been living together for more than ten years and with Amelia (6) and Marino (3) their little family has long been complete. Marriage was never really an issue for 36-year-old Roberta and her husband, who is 10 years her senior, but this summer it was time for the two of them. On July 27th they finally said yes in the summer heat of around 40 degrees in the park in Terricciola. Cohabitation outside of marriage is still the exception in Italy, as is marrying without a church blessing. But Roberta and Simone are a modern couple and their home town of Terricciola is a very progressive community. That's why the mayor, Maria Antonietta Fais, didn't miss the opportunity to personally marry the couple under a pavilion in the middle of Terricciola Park.

Rather small wedding party

It was only a good two weeks before the date that Roberta and Simone had decided to get married and only invited their closest family members and close friends. The wedding party of around 40 people was also rather small by Italian standards. But in Tuscany they know how to celebrate the celebrations properly: First, after the wedding, an old Vespa was waiting for the couple, with which they went to the beautiful hills of Tuscany for a photo shoot.  For the celebration itself, the bride and groom chose an agriturismo that is known for its good food and where the wedding party - and in typical Italian fashion - celebrated until the early hours of the morning with guitar music and singing.
