Bio Agriturismo Caprese 1

The Bio Agriturismo Caprese 1 is located in a small hamlet a few kilometers from the village Caprese Michelangelo removed. The small piece of earth looks back on a long history. There is a watchtower, of which the interior floor plan is still clearly visible, and the small church in the hamlet, where - according to tradition - St. Francis of Assisi is said to have stayed on his way to La Verna and performed miracles. Even more interesting is that the great Michelangelo Buonarroti was born in Caprese on March 6, 1475. On the site where the ruins of the medieval castle of Caprese now stand, he was born in the house of the Podestá (town hall), where his father served as mayor. Both buildings can still be admired in Caprese today! The family only returned to Florence a few months after Michelangelo was born. The Agriturismo Caprese 1 already scores points with its beautiful view of Lake Montedoglio and the Tiber Valley. Although we are still in Tuscany, the view from the panoramic terrace extends far into the country, into neighboring Umbria and even Marche and Emilia Romagna. Nature reserves and extensive mixed forests with chestnut, beech, oak and hazelnut trees extend around the agriturismo. This organic farm is family-run and the family that owns it has lived here for many generations, more precisely since the beginning of the 19th century. The individual family members take care of a wide variety of tasks and areas relating to the farm and looking after the guests, be it in... Restaurant or e.g. B. in the wellness area. In the historic buildings of Agriturismo Caprese 1 there are 6 different holiday apartments available to guests. They have been carefully restored, largely using original building materials such as wood, stone and clay, so that modern comforts are in perfect harmony with ancient ambience and the apartments radiate charm and warmth. Each apartment has a living room with TV and dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. The bedrooms each have their own bathroom. Wi-Fi is available free of charge.

The agricultural business at Agriturismo Caprese

The Agriturismo Caprese 1 is primarily an agricultural business where a wide range of products are produced (hay, grains such as spelt, whip and other ancient varieties, fruit, vegetables, chestnuts, olives, all organically certified CCPB ), but only in small quantities. Depending on the season, guests can harvest fruits and vegetables directly from the bush or plant. In summer, the gardens surrounding the agriturismo offer fresh vegetables and fruits (apples, plums, pears, cherries and figs) from which delicious jams are made. Another specialty at Agriturismo Caprese are the well-known chestnuts from Caprese Michelangelo, a special chestnut variety that has been awarded the marchio DOP since 2009. In October “la Festa del Marrone di Caprese” (=The Caprese Chestnut Festival) takes place in Caprese. A very high quality, aromatic olive oil is also produced that tastes slightly fruity and is cold pressed within 48 hours of the olives being harvested. The farm's particular pride is the Cinta Senese pig breeding. This is an old, typically Tuscan breed of pig that is only bred in small quantities. In the past, this breed was threatened with extinction because it is absolutely unsuitable for factory farming. Pig breeding takes place a few kilometers away from the holiday apartments, in fields that are part of the agriturismo's farm. The pigs have plenty of space there and are not slaughtered before they are 18 months old. Much emphasis is placed on a healthy, fiber-rich diet for the animals. This means that the taste of the meat is unique. In the farm's own restaurant you can enjoy it both as fresh meat and processed into the famous “Salumi”, the various sausage specialties. The agriturismo's products proudly state in their list of ingredients that, in addition to pork, they only contain salt and pepper.

The restaurant

The restaurant is open to both residents of Agriturismo Caprese 1 and guests from outside. Mainly typical dishes of the region are offered, but also new, original food compositions. What they all have in common is that they are prepared using ingredients from our own organic production, or at least local products. They are particularly proud of dishes based on the meat of the Cinta Senese pigs that are bred on the farm. But other types of meat are also on the menu. Whatever is not produced in-house is sourced from local farms. Try the homemade tagliatelle, ravioli and gnocchi! Another specialty of the kitchen are mushroom and truffle-based dishes. Friday is traditional pizza day: or rather “agri-pizza day”! The yeast dough is prepared in the wood-fired oven 24 hours before baking, and the delicious toppings, whether fresh cheese, Cinta Senese sausage specialties, mushrooms or truffles, come exclusively from our own production. The restaurant offers a room with 30 seats, a large panoramic terrace with a view over the valley and a large hall (100 square meters), which is suitable for larger events, be it private celebrations or courses and conferences. There are also theme evenings in summer with special menus. Advance registration is recommended. Vegetarian and Vegana Cuisine: Although the restaurant has made a name for itself primarily with meat specialties, a selection of vegetarian dishes is also offered. If you book in advance, you can even prepare vegan dishes and meals for people with gluten intolerances and other allergies.

Environmental awareness, sustainability and wellness

Biohof Caprese 1 is an environmentally friendly company that uses clean and renewable energy. Fresh water comes from our own source and electricity comes from a certified company that only uses renewable energy. Heating is particularly energy-saving with biomass, namely by burning wood chips that are obtained from our own forests. Environmental awareness and responsible use of resources is one pillar of the philosophy, the other pillar of which is dedicated to well-being. The products produced in the organic agriturismo contribute to this: good, healthy food from the region, products from the so-called “short chain”. In this way, typical specialties of the region are preserved and resources are used optimally. The focus is on the holistic view of people. To maintain the balance between body, soul and spirit, guests are offered various massage techniques and physiotherapy. The massage service is available at any time and can be booked directly on site.

Sports and outdoor activities

The extensive forest area around Agriturismo Caprese 1 offers hiking opportunities on marked hiking trails (hiking maps are provided). From the farm, which is about 500-600 m above sea level, you can climb to the top of the Alpe de Catenaia (1414 m), which is popularly known as Monte Faggeto. Mountain bike or enduro motorcycle tours are also possible, where you can be accompanied by a guide. The area is known for its animal diversity: especially at dusk, hikers will encounter wild boars, deer, stags, porcupines, hares, hawks, etc. Fishing is permitted in the rivers, private ponds or the large, untouched lake Motedoglio, where there is Trout, carp (up to 30 kg), black bass and pike are available. A special area on the Tiber is reserved exclusively for fly fishing (with corresponding Junior World Championships). The top priority when fishing is to treat animals with respect. The agriturismo provides extensive instructions on this, including fishing permits, purchasing options for fishing goods and much more. It remains to be mentioned that there is a tennis sports center near the agriturismo, which offers 7 courts with different surfaces. Neighboring villages: Anghiari and San Sepolcro Anghiari and San Sepolcro are depicted in the well-known painting “La battagli di Anghiari” [info at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlacht_von_Anghiari].
