You are in the “Parco della Sterpaia” nature reserve, which stretches along the coast on both sides of the port town of Piombino. Wheelchair users can easily get from the parking lot to the beach via wooden boards. The path leads through the pine forest over the dunes and is signposted.

Also the beach resorts Perelli 2, Perelli 3, Carlappiano, Mortelliccio, Carbonifera, Pappasole and the “free beach” Bosco Sterpaia have special ramps that allow wheelchair users to easily reach the sea.

The seaside resort offers a considerable number of wheelchair-accessible beaches:

In the city center, on the Lungomare e.g. E.g., the Tangram lido is located at Lungomare Italia 81 (Tel. +39 345 444 11 692), which unfortunately cannot be reached by car. Parking spaces are available near the Hotel Ausonia. Special wheelchairs are provided on the beach, making it easy for wheelchair users to move there alone. The beach is also suitable for blind people.

The 2nd beach is a so-called free beach (spiaggia libera) in the northern part of the seaside resort of Follonica, in the Pratoranieri district. This is a public beach where it is possible to rent parasols and deckchairs, but this is not a “must”. The municipality provides special wheelchairs suitable for sand (available from the Handy Superabile association). The beach is also designed with special wooden paths that make it possible to reach the sea directly in a wheelchair. There are public showers with folding seats and wheelchair-accessible toilets on this stretch of beach.

Im Bagno Nettuno beach you can drive your own wheelchair to the sea. The toilets are also wheelchair accessible. A special feature there is a special canoe and a “pedal boat” that can only be propelled with your arms. The address is: Stabilimento Balnerare NETTUNO, Viale Italia 210, Pratoranieri (Tel. +39 0566 2610 38 or Mobile: +39 340 665 15 72).

Furthermore, this also applies Bagno Ausonia should be mentioned, which is not officially advertised for wheelchair users, but has wheelchair-accessible toilets and is popular with some wheelchair users. It is relatively centrally located, just a few hundred meters away from the Tangram beach.
