Information about Pistoia and province

Pistoia lies at the northwestern end of the fertile plain between Monte Albano and the slopes of the Appenini that slope down to the banks of the Ombrone. The undisputed centerpiece is the “Piazza del Duomo” with San Zeno (12th-13th century) embedded in the walls of the old town. It is worth taking a walk from the cathedral via the romantic “Palazzo dei Vescovi” to the three other palazzi (Podesta, Comunale, Rospigliosi) and the “Museo Civico”. The many wonderful churches, such as “San Antonio dei Frati del Tan”, “San Francesco” and the “Basilica della Madonna dell' Urita). But it's not just churches and art lovers who get their money's worth here. The city festival “Giostra dell'orso” on July 25th there will be a bear tournament, parade and equestrian games with historical costumes on the cathedral square; Furthermore, there is one every Sat/Sun in Pistoia, which is also famous for its blacksmithing crafts Antique market.

If you want to do some sport, you can go to exclusive winter sports resorts such as “Abetone“get your money’s worth.

In Collodi is the one that is particularly popular and quite famous among our young guests “Pinocchio Park”where young and old can really let off steam! You can experience the quieter side of relaxation in Collodi with a wonderful walk in the lush parks of “Villa Garzoni”!

Grotta Giusti Terme is a gift of nature for the benefit of man. From the entrance to the deepest part of the grotto, one enters three different gradually warmer rooms, which according to tradition are called “Paradiso”, “Purgatorio” and “Inferno”.

In Limbo there is a small lake with a constant water temperature of 36°C - in winter and summer. The air temperature also experiences only very small fluctuations in the different seasons: it is around 31°C in the first and gradually increases to a maximum of 34°C in the last cave room with almost 100% humidity. The air pressure in all cave rooms is constant and the same as outside. A natural, not yet fully understood process enables good and effective air exchange. Staying in the grotto is therefore perceived as pleasant and leads to copious sweating, thanks to the high humidity, more than the temperature. The vapors of the mineral-rich thermal water enable a natural “health bath”, purify the entire organism and lead to a general well-being of the entire body.

Giuseppe Verdi described the thermal grotto as the “eighth wonder of the world” in the 19th century, and it still enchants visitors today. The history of the facility begins in 1849, when workers on the Giusti family property accidentally came across hot steam escaping from the earth. During further excavations, they discovered a place that had remained hidden since time immemorial: the grotto. The moderate water temperature immediately suggested that the spring could be used for medicinal purposes. Now, as then, the cave's stalactites create a very special atmosphere. They seem like mysterious shadows from another world. The unreal silence that surrounds the visitor as he moves in the warmth of the mountain, somewhere between paradise, purgatory and inferno, conveys a unique and very personal experience. On the way into the cave the temperature slowly rises to 34 C°. That's why you can easily stay in the steam bath for the full 50 minutes. It eliminates toxins in our body and frees us from the traces of daily stress. The current thermal center is the result of constant innovations that have safely guided it through different lifestyles and fashions, war and peace, tears and laughter. What remains, however, is what forms the core of the entire complex: the thermal grotto; and planning for an indoor thermal swimming pool has been underway since the end of the Second World War.

In addition to the thermal steam bath in the grotto, Grotta Giusti Terme also offers mud therapy, the ozone bath in thermal water, the thermal exercise bath, the massages, the inhalation therapies and a range of individually composed and tailored depending on the characteristics and needs of the individual Applications carried out by highly qualified staff under constant specialist medical supervision.

The Beauty Institute and the Skin Cosmetics Research Center complete the offering with their avant-garde therapies. A special holiday that offers the unique opportunity to strengthen your own organism and take care of yourself in the most effective and pleasant way.
