Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Guardistallo2 country residence:
– The location is great. Although the property is 20 km from the sea, you can get there quickly thanks to the good connections and there are many beautiful beaches to choose from. But the surrounding villages are also very beautiful, Volterra is not far either, and Pisa, Lucca and the excavations at Populonia, for example, can also be easily reached via the motorway. From the accommodation you have a fantastic view of the surrounding area as far as Volterra.
– The accommodation is nicely furnished in Tuscan style. However, given the price (950 € in the last week of August; 640 € in the first week of September was ok), I would have expected a little more (e.g. the sofa was torn open on the side, the closet was quite small, changing linen after a week would have cost extra) .
– We really liked the complex itself, the terraces and gardens to the apartments are beautiful and lovingly laid out, the swimming pool is nice and clean with a great view, our daughter liked the playground. You could also use a washing machine for free, which was very practical.
– The lady at the reception (Nina) was very friendly and helpful. We also recommend a tour and wine tasting at a winery in Montescudaio, which she conducts. We also enjoyed using the bread roll service.
– Unfortunately the flies were very annoying. There were so many that it was better not to spend too long outside during the day. Inside there was fly swatting every day, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to stand it (unless you keep the patio door closed during the day, but we usually couldn't do that). In the evening, when the flies were finally asleep, the mosquitoes came. However, they were easier to bear, with a little autan, little light outside and long clothes it was ok.
We would like to come back, but not during “fly season” (although it is not clear to me when the flies will be gone again). Fly curtains on the patio door would probably help, but probably wouldn't solve the problem.
