Tuscany with Dog – Part 3

Jule, Michael and the three dogs have been living there for five days now Holiday Home In Tuscany, in a very cozy two-room apartment on the 1st floor. The dogs have settled in well. While little Luna sometimes goes on little trips into the beautiful garden on her own, Lancy and Sunny always stay at their master's side.

We are awake shortly after eight. The sun shines through our bedroom window. Quickly put on something and “armed” with dog walking bags and took the dogs out into the garden. Then it's our turn and we sit in front of our apartment in the morning sun with a cup of coffee or tea. Around us: three deeply relaxed dogs. It's only when Diego comes out of the neighboring apartment that there's a bit of barking and growling. I've gotten into the habit of giving out a round of treats when Diego returns from his walk with his owner. Diego seems to like this and our three Wauzis have slowly accepted their four-legged neighbor.

We haven't planned the usual sightseeing program for Tuscany with a dog, we just want to enjoy the beautiful weather, relax and unwind. We go to the village on foot. Terricciola is just adorable. Sunny is exhausted after the path is always uphill. A good reason for us to go to the “Caffe del Borgo” again. People already know us here and we are greeted with a friendly “Ciao”. With the cappuccino there are delicious cornetti filled with vanilla cream. The dogs seem to say: “Oh, we already know that here” and lie quietly under the table. We stroll through Terricciola a bit. As on almost every trip south, I have to buy a new sun hat because I forgot mine in Hamburg again. Lancy, who can hardly stand being away from me, comes to the store with me. Even though I don't understand a word, the shop owner seems delighted with my fur ball and she actually has a somewhat decent sun hat for me.

We spend the rest of the day lazily in InToscana. The dogs get chicken with rice and roots. While the girls are eating well, Lancy still has no appetite, but he has always been a sensitive little one who has reacted very sensitively to changes. So I decide not to worry. So that the dogs don't have to drive again, Michael gets us a pizza from the village - no comparison to Joey's or the "stuff" that we get delivered to us. It's almost 22 p.m. again and - like the last few evenings - we're just tired, fall into bed and fall asleep almost immediately.

March 28th: Walking the dog in Tuscan

After ten hours of sleep, we are alert and head out straight after breakfast. It's a mild 15°, but the wind is still quite cold. Ideal weather for the dogs. Michael already has an idea where we can run with the four-legged friends. I'm excited, after all the route shouldn't be too strenuous for Sunny. The Tuscan ups and downs are a bit tiring for the old lady. We park behind a small football stadium, get out and start walking. Some meadow, dried bushes, loamy ground with countless traces of sheep and in between a few blooming primroses or daffodils. The dogs discover a small stream that we walk along. Luna is in her element: sniffing and running. The two oldies are the same, just a little slower! After an hour and a half we are back at the car.

Now it's our turn. Michael discovered a gelateria. It's called "La Locanda delle Streghe", which means something like "Local of the Witches", which I really like. There is a long cake counter full of small cakes and a number of “particles” and right next to it there is an ice cream counter. We each order a piece of cake and a cappuccino and sit in the garden with the dogs. The dogs are welcome here again and lie down relaxed next to the seating area. The cake is delicious and less sweet than in Hamburg. After the second cappuccino we have to try the ice cream. We each take a scoop of strawberry and lemon in a waffle. The waffles here are just like they were in my childhood and after the ice cream has been licked, the four-legged friends get the leftover waffles to nibble on.

On the way to the ice cream parlor we discovered a shoe shop. Italian shoes – what could be nicer? It's now overcast, so we can let the dogs wait in the car with the windows wide open. Unfortunately, I can't find any of the women's shoes. Michael finds two pairs of super nice men's shoes - and I find a bag, which you can never have enough of! The dogs did a good job in the car. I might have to say that we rarely travel in the car with our dogs in Hamburg - so it's worth mentioning that the three of them waited so nicely.

Back at InToscana there is chicken with rice and roots for the four-legged friends again today. Lancy still has no appetite. He takes just a small treat from his master with a lot of persuasion. After the dogs are full, we want to try the pizzeria “Il Cigliere” on the outskirts of Terricciola. But the shop doesn't seem to be open, so we go back to “Il Morso” in the historic center of Terricciola. Roberta welcomes us with a friendly “Ciao” and greets each of the dogs by name. We have a small starter, Michael a prosciutto pizza and I the spaghetti with fresh tomatoes. We took Luna's box with us because the stone floor is apparently too cold for her, so she always wants to sit on my lap. She seems to like that a lot better! After cappuccino - Michael has already adjusted and orders an espresso - a tiramisu for Michael and a panna cotta with strawberry sauce for me - we drive back. And how could it be otherwise? Once again we fall into bed dead tired and fall asleep immediately.
