Holiday homes and apartments for holidaymakers with disabilities

Barrier-free travel is something that not only people who rely on a wheelchair want, but also guests who are no longer able to walk very well. That's why Toscana Forum also offers a number of Holiday homes and apartments that are barrier-free or barrier-free (Tuscany wheelchair accessible) and you can recognize them by the wheelchair symbol. Since different handicaps place different demands on the accommodation - such as step-free interiors, widened doors or barrier-free bathrooms - we will advise you in detail as to whether the holiday home you have chosen actually meets your requirements.

Exactly as described

Karl-Heinz A. from Munich had initially chosen another holiday apartment, but unfortunately it was already taken. After a lengthy phone call, Elisa Santoni found him an apartment in Farmhouse recommended and the man from Munich was very excited that he found everything exactly as described by Ms. Santoni:

  • Apart from a few obstacles, the apartment was very easy to live in with a wheelchair.
  • Mr. A. was also able to move around very well outside the apartment.
  • A step of approx. eight centimeters high on the terrace can be easily overcome with a small ramp.
  • The concrete ramp at the pool has an incline of around 31 percent, but can be easily navigated with an accompanying person.
  • The sun loungers by the pool can also be used by wheelchair users who can transfer themselves.
  • The only downside: there is no pool lift.

The host family from Munich said they were very concerned about the well-being of their guests and were always there when they needed help. “The houses and holiday apartments are built and furnished in the former Tuscan style and are extremely pretty", he says, and the location of the swimming pool is just fantastic. He also raves about the food at Mama Angela’s: “You eat at a long table together with the family, and you quickly get to know the other guests“. You are also looked after and pampered here, so that your holiday in June flew by, despite a few days of bad weather. Many beaches are barrier-free

In many regions of Tuscany there is a lot of commitment to people with limited mobility, so that many sights and cultural assets can of course also be visited with a wheelchair. The same applies to many Beaches and bathing establishments, which can be recognized by a blue logo depicting a wheelchair and are designated as “Senza Barriere”, “Accesso per Disabili” or “Accesso per Diversamente Abili” – i.e. barrier-free.
